We don’t wish to be robbers but the system is too hard for us” – Armed robbers explain to GH passengers as they rob them

Five masked armed robbers allegedly attacked over 40 individuals on their way from Takoradi in the Western Region to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The VIP bus with the registration number GT 5795-16 left the Abenbebon Station in Apremdo, Takoradi around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to Ekua, a victim of the tragedy.

In the early hours of Monday, they were ambushed by armed guys and robbed of their belongings.

"Around 3:30 a.m. on Monday, February 21, 2022, about five armed thieves approached us and grabbed our money and other belongings with rifles and other weapons. She explained, "They were all wearing masks."

She said, "The armed thieves advised them to pray for divine intervention on their behalf following the robbery."

"They asked us to pray for them after the heist because it was not their aim to stop vehicles on the highway and rob them of their belongings," she stated.

According to another robbery victim, the criminals made off with another victim's purse containing GH8,500.

"I'm a driver, and I was preparing to buy an engine for my car in Kumasi." Last week, another set of armed robbers in Kintampo took my Mobile Money phone, so I elected to carry the money in my bag, but I was robbed again," he stated according to 3news.

The travellers were left stranded at the Anwiankwanta Police Station, where an official complaint had been lodged.

The vehicle's driver, Agya Owusu, said there was nothing he could do to alleviate the situation.

"I spotted a car flashing his signal to alert me that there was a risk on the road when I arrived at Fomena." I pulled over to the side of the road for approximately five minutes, bewildered.

"After a few minutes of driving, I saw a Sprinter bus on the road with passengers sleeping on the ground, so I decided to keep on."

I recognized there were armed robbers on the loose at this point. There was nothing I could do because they were so close.

They assaulted us and took all we owned. "They took my GH3,400," the driver said.
