After her husband divorced her, the nurse poisons two children and stabs herself.

Pherine Maero, a 32-year-old nurse, was detained by authorities in Mwiyala, on the outskirts of Kakamega town, Kenya, for providing poisoned food to her two children, which resulted in their deaths.

Two children are poisoned by a nurse.

After her husband divorces her, she poisons two children and stabs herself.

On Saturday night, March 5, Pherine Maero poisoned her two children, ages 7 and 9, and then contacted her estranged husband to "come and take the bodies of your children."

Charles Akhonya, a guard at the apartment where she lives, claimed the woman contacted him at the gate at 3 a.m., pleading with him to open the gate for the 'husband,' but when he followed them to their house, he saw two children dead on their bed.

The woman, who attempted to stab herself in the neck with a knife, was rescued and is being treated at a Kakamega hospital as police investigate.

According to neighbors who talked to the press, the woman has been erratic since divorcing from her husband, breaking her husband's car, which was parked at the apartment, at one point.

Valerian Obore, the OCPD for Kakamega Central, confirmed the event and said the suspect, who is in serious condition at the hospital, will be charged with murder once he recovers.

The minors' bodies were taken to the mortuary at the Kakamega County General Teaching Referral Hospital.
