Akim Oda MP Escapes Mob Attack As Irate NPP Supporters Storm His House

The electoral area coordinators election has heightened tensions in the ruling New Patriotic Party's Oda Constituency.

On Monday, March 28, 2022, at around 7:00 a.m., a swarm of agitated polling station executives and some party members invaded the house of the area's member of Parliament, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, in an attempt to place him under house arrest.

The polling station executives are demanding an explanation as to why the election for electoral area coordinators has not been held nearly a month after the deadline.

The angry polling station executives threatened to kidnap the MP unless he addressed their complaint.

In the Akuapem North constituency, for example, the party has suspended the constituency Youth organizer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie alias IGP for making unfounded allegations against President Akuffo Addo and the party's National Chairman during the election of polling station executives and Electoral Area Coordinators.

According to a letter issued and signed by the NPP's Eastern Regional Secretary, Jeff Konadu, the decision to suspend the youth organizer was triggered by a petition dated March 23, 2022, from Mr. Carlos Jeffrey Abingale, a member of the party and a polling station youth organizer at Demonstration 1 polling station in Akuapem North Constituency, invoking the jurisdiction of the Regional steering committee about the constituency youth organizer's conduct which  contravenes Article 3 clause 5A the party’s constitution.
