'Unlike Nigeria, it's not a major concern if Ghana fails to qualify for the World Cup. - Yakubu Aiyegbeni,

Ghana's failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, according to Nigeria veteran Yakubu Aiyegbeni, will not be a major setback.

Although several Ghanaians may be disappointed by such a result, he believes that making it to Qatar matters more to Nigerians.

Yakubu played for Nigeria for nearly a decade and faced Ghana on multiple occasions, including during the Super Eagles' AFCON 2008 2-1 loss to the Black Stars.

The 39-year-old added that most Nigerians are already looking forward to seeing their national team in the World Cup, speaking before of his country's Qatar 2020 playoff against Ghana.

"No one will feel good, everyone will feel awful, and everyone will be disappointed that they will not be able to attend the World Cup," Yakubu told Joy Sports.

Also, for most of the Nigerian team's lads, this is their final chance to play in the World Cup; it will never come again, so they must go and give it their all. We don't want to think about not going to the World Cup; we want to think about already being in Qatar. "I understand how Ghanaians feel; they want to be in the World Cup as well, but for Nigerians, our dream is to go there and support them.

" Consider the possibility of Nigeria failing to qualify for the World Cup. It's not a big thing if Ghana fails to qualify for the World Cup, but it's a big deal if Nigeria fails to qualify."

The first leg will take place on March 25, 2022, and the second leg will take place on March 29, 2022.

The opening leg of the 2022 World Cup playoff encounter between Ghana and Nigeria will be held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

This comes after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) gave the stadium a one-match permit to host the big game.

The first leg was planned to be held at the Cape Coast Stadium in Ghana, but it was judged unsuitable for purpose after Ghana's 65th Independence Day parade was conducted there.
