In response to an upsurge in mortality during matches and training, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) advocated mandatory cardiac testing, which has been in effect in numerous countries for years, including Italy. 

This is a list of 5 football players who died in the media for various reasons, including heart arrest and occasionally unknown reasons. 

Italy's Piermario Morosini 

Piermario Morosini was an Italian footballer who played in the professional league as a midfielder. 

On April 14, 2012, Morosini died of cardiac arrest on the pitch during a match between Pescara and Livorno. Morosini began his career with Atalanta before being traded to Udinese in 2005 as part of a co-ownership arrangement. 

On October 23, 2005, he made his Serie A debut in a match between Udinese and Inter, and he went on to make five appearances in the league. He made his UEFA Cup debut in the 2005–06 season, in a match between Levski Sofia and Udinese. 

Miklós "Miki" Fehér played for the Hungarian national team as a striker. He played for four clubs in Portugal throughout his nine-year career, scoring 27 goals in 80 games in the Primeira Liga. 

On January 25, 2004, he died of a heart attack during a match between Vitória de Guimares and his side, Benfica, at Guimares. 

Spain's Antonio Puerta 

Antonio José Puerta Pérez was a Spanish footballer who spent his entire career with Sevilla. He died three days after suffering a series of cardiac arrests during a La Liga match against Getafe on August 25, 2007, of arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia. 

He was mostly a left midfielder, but he also had the ability to play as an offensive left defender. Puerta made one appearance for Spain and won five trophies with his single club. 

Brazil's Marcio Dos Santos 

Márcio Roberto dos Santos, best known by his nickname Márcio Santos, is a retired association football defender. Santos is a So Paulo native who has played for a number of clubs throughout his career. After scoring a goal on the football field, he died of a heart attack. 

Argentina's Cristian Gomez 

Cristian César Gómez was an Argentine footballer who played as a defender for clubs such as 9 de Julio de Rafaela, Deportivo Armenio, Sportivo Patria, and Atlético Paraná. He died of heart failure during a Primera B Nacional match in May of 2015.
