‘Little House on the Prairie’: Michael Landon Said His Character, Charles Ingalls, Probably Would’ve Divorced Caroline Ingalls

Fans have a soft spot in their hearts for Little House on the Prairie. Charles Ingalls, the father figure in the show, was played by Michael Landon. And we can't forget that Karen Grassle, who played his on-screen wife Caroline Ingalls, left the show on her own.

Landon says that if Charles had been able to leave, he would have left his wife behind. Here's what Landon had to say about how a husband and wife work together.

Charles Ingalls, played by Michael Landon, got married on "Little House on the Prairie."

The media wrote a lot about Landon's real-life relationships. But when it came to Little House on the Prairie, Charles was with only one woman, and that was Caroline.

The Little House Wiki says that Charles and Caroline met when they were both very young. Caroline quit her job as a teacher when she got married because she was no longer close to any schools.

In the relationship between Charles and Caroline, Caroline stayed true to him until the end. Caroline may have fallen in love with another man in one episode of Little House, but that didn't really happen. But she was still having problems with Charles. Caroline and Charles had more than one daughter together. But she never had a son for Charles, which hurt her.

Landon told Charles that he didn't think his marriage to Caroline Ingalls would last.

In the show, Charles and Caroline had a marriage that worked. And it seems like Landon and Grassle got along well at first. When Grassle first started working with Landon, she noticed that he could be "quite moody," but she also saw that he worked very hard. In the end, they became very close friends.

Even though Landon was friends with Grassle in real life and was married to her character on-screen, he once said he thinks Charles wouldn't have stayed married to Caroline if he had the choice. People says that Landon once said that he didn't think the characters would have stayed together "if it hadn't been so far to the next house back then."

So, why did Charles and Caroline make Landon feel this way? Still not sure, but it seems like his hard childhood and multiple failed marriages may have had something to do with it.

After he became famous with Bonanza, his first marriage to Dodie Levy-Fraser ended. And while he was still married to Fraser, he started dating model and actor Lynn Noe, who had been divorced. After he was no longer married to Fraser, Landon ran away with Noe in 1963, but their marriage also didn't last.

The split between Landon and Lynn Noe led to a lot of drama.

Before they split up, Noe and Landon had been married for almost 20 years. When his relationship with Noe started to go downhill, Landon started dating Cindy Clerico, who was much younger than him and worked as a makeup artist on Little House on the Prairie. This caused a lot of noise when they split up.

Landon said about his relationship with Noe, "We were together for 19 years." "I don't think that was a marriage that didn't work. I don't think it was a terrible thing. We had some great children. We just didn't get bigger in the same way. We changed into new people. Both of us changed."

Landon lived with Clerico until 1991, when Clerico died. Even though he was criticized when he left Noe to go after Clerico, he seems to have found peace and happiness with his last wife.
