“Northerners are not fit to lead the NPP” – Hopeson Adorye reportedly says

According to rumors, former MP Hopeson Adorye said Northers weren't qualified to serve as the NPP's flagbearer.

He has refuted this assertion.

Mr. Adorye, who is the Director of Operations for the Alan Kyerematen Campaign Team, made it clear that he was giving a historical overview of the NPP's presidential ticket since 1992.

The Christian-Muslim Ticket is the formula.

We are the only Party that has utilized the Christian-Muslim Ticket since 1992, in fact. NDC has always run on a Christian-Christian ticket, but it still controls all Muslim voting districts, including Zango.

"In 1992, NPP featured Muslim Roland Issifu Alhassan and Christian Albert Adu Boahen. NPP ran Muslim Alhaji Aliu Mahama and Christian John Agyekum Kufuor from 1998 to 2008. NPP has presented Muslim Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Christian Akufo-Addo since 2008.

Therefore, in accordance with the criteria, the running-mate position has always been held by the Dombo camp, regardless of whether a Dankwa or Busia protégé is serving as the Party's flagbearer.

Some NPP officials have criticized Mr. Adorye because they think it was improper of him to imply that Northerners have no future in the party.

The late Farouk Aliu Mahama, a former vice president of Ghana under the Kufuor administration, has responded by saying...

"His comment is a mockery of our founding goals, that is, to construct a political organization of national character that grants, tout de suite, the liberty of inclusion at the top of the party regardless of the circumstances of your birth, creed, religious suasion, or birthplace," said one observer.

"The tradition has thrived on these foundations, withstood all the political hostilities and persecutions in the pre and post independence era, and has transformed into our the great NPP today," the statement continued.

"It is through the NPP that the son of a koko vendor in Yendi's remote hinterland may ascend to become his party's running mate and, ultimately, the vice president of his nation. Our tradition endures because of its doctrine.
