The third season of "Bridgerton" is currently being filmed for Netflix.

The Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton relationship will be followed throughout the season.

The third season of "Bridgerton" will center on Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington's relationship.

The third season of "Bridgerton" will center on the relationship between Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) (Nicola Coughlan)

Season three of the popular Netflix series will jump to the fourth book in the series, "Romancing Mister Bridgerton," as opposed to earlier seasons, which followed the order of Julia Quinn's "Bridgerton" books.

In the novel, Colin makes an effort to win Penelope over when she loses interest in him and reveals her true identity as gossip columnist Lady Whistledown.

According to Deadline, Coughlan made the declaration in May during Netflix's FYSEE presentation.

Season three is Colin and Penelope's love tale, I can disclose to you all, like Lady Whistledown, I have been keeping this a secret for a very long time, Coughlan stated. "Since the second episode of season two, I have kept that a secret. I'm stating it here for the first time."

Colin will be the one after Penelope, just like in the book it's based on.

The third season's plot description has been made public by Netflix. After Colin made fun of her at the end of season two, Penelope will be letting go of her crush in the following episodes.

The plot summary states that Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), after hearing Colin Bridgerton's critical remarks about her the previous season, has finally abandoned her long-standing affection on him. "But now she's decided it's time to get married, ideally to a man who will give her enough freedom to continue living a double life as Lady Whistledown distant from her mother and sisters. However, Penelope's attempts in the marriage market fail miserably due to a lack of confidence."

In an effort to be a friend and assist Penelope in finding a husband, Colin puts them in a setting where their romance can develop.

"Colin, meantime, has returned from his summertime travels with a fresh appearance and a serious air of confidence. But he is disappointed to learn that Penelope, the one person who has always accepted him for who he is, is ignoring him "The summary goes on. "Colin offers to teach Penelope confidence-building techniques in an effort to win back her friendship this season. Colin must decide whether his feelings for Penelope are really just friendly as his lessons begin to work a little too well."

Eloise and Benedict, Colin's siblings, will have significant roles in season three.

The Netflix narrative summary makes it clear that the remainder of Penelope and Colin's sister Eloise's falling out will be shown in season three (Claudia Jessie).

Eloise learns that her best friend Penelope had been hiding the existence of the Lady Whistledown from her at the conclusion of season two. This occurs after Penelope humiliates Eloise in front of everyone in order to protect her from the Queen's (Golda Rosheuvel) retaliation.

The Netflix synopsis for the movie states, "Penelope's rift with Eloise (Claudia Jessie), who has made a new friend in an odd place, complicates matters, while Penelope's growing presence in the ton makes it all the more difficult to maintain her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret."

Colin's older brother Benedict (Luke Thompson), who has taken over as the showrunner since Chris Van Dusen left, will be a "key component of season three," according to Jess Brownell, the new showrunner.

The love tale of Benedict is told in the books before Colin's. Season three, nevertheless, may have planted the roots for Benedict's upcoming romance.

Additionally, Penelope's weight reduction journey from the books will not be included in the series, according to Brownell.

According to Brownell, "We think Penelope is gorgeous, but I don't think it's actually a part of her tale."

The remainder of the Bridgerton family will continue to be active in the future season, according to Brownell.

The showrunner confirmed to Variety that Phoebe Dynevor's character Colin's sister Daphne Bridgerton, Jonathan Bailey's character Anthony Bridgerton, and Simone Ashley's character, Anthony Bridgerton's wife Kate Sharma, will all return for the third season.

Regé-Jean Page, who played Simon Basset, Daphne's lover and husband on the first season of the program, has made it clear that he won't be coming back and has told Variety that the show is free to recast him.

Ruby Stokes left to direct another Netflix film, therefore Francesca Bridgerton was recast for season three, it was revealed in May. The character will be portrayed in season three by Hannah Dodd.

As Gregory Bridgerton, Lady Violet Bridgerton, and Hyacinth Bridgerton, respectively, Ruth Gemmell, Will Tilston, and Florence Hunt are anticipated to make a comeback.

Marcus Anderson, portrayed by Daniel Francis, is a "charismatic personality who lights up each room he enters, catching the attention of select matriarchs in the ton — and the ire of others," according to Netflix.

Sam Phillips will portray Lord Debling, who is said to have "strange interests," and he will be played by Debling.

Last but not least, James Phoon portrays Harry Dankworth, a Regency himbo who "more than makes up for what Dankworth lacks in wit and brains with serious good looks."

Although it is unknown what part these people will play in the story, it is likely that they will compete with Colin for Penelope's affections.

According to a brief teaser posted on the "Bridgerton" show's official Twitter account, the cast has started filming the third season.

The release date of the upcoming season has not yet been determined, however it is most likely in 2023.
