‘Media has overhyped this small matter’ – Aisha Huang’s lawyer

A lawyer for galamsey kingpin Aisha Huang, who is on trial for illegal mining, said that the media was "overhyping" the case. Huang is a Chinese national.

Nkrabea Effah Dartey thinks the case in court is "small," so he is surprised that the media is paying so much attention to it.

"I'm worried that the media has made too much of this small issue of mining and selling minerals without a license. It's not a big deal; in Ghana, it happens every day. So I don't see why the media should even write an editorial about this."

"And that's what makes the problem and adds all kinds of uncertainty to the situation," Effah Dartey told reporters today, September 14, 2022, after court proceedings.

Aisha Huang has been accused of mining without a license and selling and buying minerals without a license.

She is on trial with Jong Li Hua, Huang Jei, and Huaid Hai Hun, three other Chinese people.

After the court hearing on Wednesday, Aisha Huang and her helpers were told they couldn't get bail.
