Over 80,000 girls in Ghana are already married or living with a man.

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) says that about 80,000 girls in Ghana who are between 12 and 17 years old are already married or living with men.

According to the report, nearly 26,000 of them are girls between the ages of 12 and 14 who are in junior high school.

When it comes to the number of girls in the union, the North East (13.0%), Savannah (10.9%), and Northern (10.6%) all have rates that are more than twice as high as the national average (4.0%).

Also, even though basic education is free and required for everyone, about 244,731 girls between the ages of 6 and 14 have never been to any kind of school.

In terms of the number of girls who have never been to school, the Northern Region has the most (73,516), followed by the Savannah Region (27,930) and the North East Region (22,857).

Also, the largest number of women who are not in school right now live in these three areas (or who have never been enrolled). The North East Region is in second place with 29.3%, and the Northern Region is in third place with 28.5%.

The information is based on the 2021 Population and Housing Census and is given on International Day of the Girl Child, which is celebrated around the world.
