Producers have hinted at what will happen to Colin's character in Season 3 of Bridgerton.

Executive producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers give hints about how Colin will change and how he will feel about Penelope in season 3 of Bridgerton. Based on Julia Quinn's Regency-era romance books, each season of Bridgerton follows a different member of the noble family of the same name as they try to find love in London's high society.

The first season was about Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page). The second season was about Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), who was in a complicated love triangle with Kate (Simone Ashley) and Edwina Sharma (Edwina Sharma) (Charithra Chandran).

Bridgerton season 3 started filming earlier this year and will adapt the fourth book in Quinn's series, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which is about the love story between the third Bridgerton son, Colin (Luke Newton), and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan).

At the end of season 1, it was revealed that Penelope was Lady Whistledown. At the end of season 2, her best friend Eloise (Claudia Jessie) found out her secret. Colin and Penelope have been friends since they were kids, but the youngest Featherington daughter has always had a secret crush on the Bridgerton boy. In Season 3, they should finally go from being friends to being lovers.

In their new book, Inside Bridgerton, Rhimes and Beers gave hints about how Colin will change and how he will feel about Penelope in season 3. Both of the people in charge of making Bridgerton talked about what Colin wanted and why he did what he did. What they said is below:

What to look forward to from Colin and Penelope In Season 3 of Bridgerton

Beers talks about Colin's deep-seated desire to "save the damsel in distress." In season 2 of Bridgerton, this desire shows up when he saves the Featherington women by revealing cousin Jack's scam. Colin is the third Bridgerton son, after Anthony and Benedict (Luke Thompson). Because of this, he is not the heir to his house, and he is often unhappy about this. So, Rhimes says,

Colin tries to give his life meaning by "saving women," which makes him feel heroic and useful. As Colin gets more attention in season 3 of Bridgerton, it seems like his heroic traits will be looked at more closely and in more depth.

At the end of the second season of Bridgerton, Penelope is in a bad place. Her friendship with Eloise has ended, and she heard Colin say that he would never date her. Even though Penelope used to be seen as a fiercely independent character, she could now be seen as a damsel in distress.

This could be why Colin is now more interested in Penelope than he was before, when he wanted their relationship to stay platonic. Only time will tell if this part of Colin's personality will play a role in his relationship with Penelope in season 3 of Bridgerton.
