Jojo Wollacott has been ruled out of World Cup with fractured finger

Jojo Wollacott broke his finger and can't play in the 2022 World Cup. This is a big loss for Ghana, especially since the tournament starts in Qatar in just eight days.

On Saturday night, the goalkeeper got hurt while warming up for his team's League One game against Burton Albion.

"In the warm-up, he caught the end of his finger. As soon as we get back to London, he'll be scanned. "We're hoping and praying that it's nothing, because he's supposed to fly to the World Cup tomorrow," Charlton Athletic manager Ben Garner told the club's media channel after the game.

Scans showed that Wollacott had a serious injury, so he can't play in the tournament. This happened just one day before the final 26 players were to be named, and he was supposed to be one of them.

Wollacott has been the first choice goalie for the Black Stars since his first game on September 21. He was the goalie for the Black Stars during their terrible run at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.

He was criticized for some of the goals he let in Cameroon, but he made up for it by playing a brave game in March that helped Ghana beat Nigeria and get into the World Cup.

Wollacott was born in Bristol, England, but has been playing for Ghana since last year. He has made 11 appearances, given up 11 goals, and kept four clean sheets.

The Black Stars' training camp will start on Monday in Abu Dhabi. On Thursday, November 17, they will play Switzerland in their last friendly game before going to Qatar for the World Cup.

Ghana's World Cup starts on November 24 at Doha's Stadium 974 against Portugal, who won the European Championship in 2004.
