I spend 7,000 on gas to get to and from Tamale. Murtala Mohammed
Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who is an MP for Tamale Central, has said that the price of fuel in the country is crazy.
In an interview with JoyNews, the lawmaker said that it costs him GH7,000 to drive his Land Cruiser to Tamale and back.
He said that because of this, he had to take an airplane to get to Tamale.
But he said that the prices of flights from Accra to Tamale and Kumasi are the same because of taxes on airplane fuel.
He said that the government should get rid of taxes on fuel for domestic airlines right away to bring down the high airfares.
"If I want to drive my Land Cruiser to Tamale right now, I need about 3000 to fill up the tank, and I will have to fill up again in Techiman. When I fill up again, I can spend no less than 500."
"That means you need 3500 in and 3500 out, for a total of 7000. So, we decided to go get some air. You need at least 3000 for a return flight ticket to Tamale. It makes no sense at all.
